La Crema: Valencia, Spain's Night of Fire (27x35 cm / 11x14)

When we planned our trip to Valencia, Spain, we had no idea it would overlap with the city's famed Las Fallas Festival. 

This ten-day extravaganza is centered around the creation of hundreds of fallas, papier-mâché sculptures that can reach 65 feet in height.

And on La Crema, the final night of Las Fallas, almost all of the sculptures are burned in a city-wide conflagration that has to be seen to be believed. 

It remains one of the most amazing spectacles I've seen in ten years of travel.
